Sky high swim anyone?

Not for the those with vertigo! 200m in the sky, on the 55th floor this 150m swimming pool at the Marina Bay Sands hotel in Singapore is now the world’s largest infinity & outdoor pool at this height. Talk about swimming with a view!

Things that sparkle….

So you’ve probably noticed by now, that ‘if it sparkles, it features’ – i.e. I am a total magpie and anything that is remotely sparkly demands my attention (and passion!)

In this case, its a Vespa. Now, I am much more of a taxi kind of girl but regardless, this deserves a mention. This beauty was developed by a company in Germany and took four years to apply the crystals.

I wouldn’t be surprised in the celebs get their hands on them and ask for a tailor made piece. Indeed if I were rich and a Vespa rider, nothing but the sparkling version would do. Daaaarling.

Sinking feeling…..

I have recently read about the race to complete the world’s first upscale underwater hotel. It now has become a four-way event between Istanbul, China, Dubai and the Fiji. The ‘Shanghai Shimao Wonderland’ will open its doors next year as the “worlds lowest altitude hotel” while Dubai’s Hydropolis is a half-billion-dollar hotel shaped like a jellyfish with 220 rooms and a shopping mall.  Sound unique, cool, fun? Well personally I find the whole thing just a little freaky. Especially when you discover the Hydroplois has a missile defense system to guard against terrorists! Can you imagine anything than worse staying 40 feet below the surface surrounded by water with only one tunnel out? The words ‘trapped’ and claustrophobic’ come to mind!

The Poseidon Undersea Resort in Fiji is open if you fancy putting it to the test? It has $20,000-per-night suite that is accessible by only submarine (for me, this just makes the whole thing even worse!) or the standard rate of $1,500 a night to enter the rooms via an underwater lift and tunnel.

Unique, unusual and worth a story maybe. Certainly for some, this is something to aspire to. For me, I am pleased to say my feet will be staying solidly on terra firma.  Ritz Carlton anyone?!

Indian inspiration….

I have never been to India sadly, but it’s on my ‘must visit’ list for 2011. I am fascinated by a country that is so amazingly diverse in language and culture, people, food and lanscape. What a country of contrasts. Wealth and poverty, the elegant and the ugly, modern technologies and historical monuments, the great and the small.  It is the worlds largest democracy, the 6th largest country and the most ancient living cizilisation (at least 30,000 years old.) Until I get the chance to take my own photos I wanted to share the below. Utter beauty, eye opening colour and fabulous contrast. I hope these photos bring a smile and some travel inspiration to your Sunday! Enjoy!

Brighten up the journey….

I have to travel a lot for work and its only since I have started spending such an extortionate amount of time in airports that I really started to understand the value of investing in your luggage. Yes, its expensive, but it lasts for ever (or should do) so at a cost per use, its surely worth the investment??

The options are endless but Rimowa has to be up there with the very best. Functionally, its durable, light weight and has a range that spans from carry-on’s to beauty cases. They come with T.S.A locks as standard and perfectly girly optional bags for shoes, suits and even notebooks.  Emotionally, well I have to say, you do feel that little more special, and infinitely more stylish, when you approach the check in with these cases!

There’s a lot one can perfect in 112 years and Rimowa have got it just right with their signature aluminum shells and parallel grooves.  Today I am ooh-ing all about the new Salsa Air collection, stunning boldly coloured accessories that make packing, and airports, that little bit more bearable!
