Matthew? Airbrushed? Who cares!

So, there was a whole loada drama online about whether or not Matthew McConaughey has been airbrushed in his campaign for Dolce & Gabbana, but, personally I say – who cares!

Nowadays we’re all aware that the big brands perfect everything in the name of marketing, and its not just the people that are airbrushed. Its the landscapes, the packaging, the food – even the colour of the sea and sand in the travel brochures.  So while I don’t think we should be misled (and don’t agree every model should be minimised to a size zero) I get that brands want to portray perfection and aspiration. Their own take on supremacy and excellence, and most the time we know all about it and enjoy every lovely looking moment of it!

Anyway, my point is that in the case of Matthew M below for D&G I say – yes its cheesy and over retouched, but I don’t mind one bit! he he he 🙂

You??? Love it or hate it? Let me know………

And to additionally swoon over: (beware this gets cheesier than even the print ads!)

  1. I agree…who cares? The question is who ISN’T airbrushed in ads?

  2. I used to think the same, but I’ve changed my opinion lately. They can achieve such high quality with lighting and photo directors anyway, photoshopping everything takes it so much further into the realms of unachievable. Body dysmorphia is already far too common.

  3. Oh my, that first image has been photoshopped to hell and back. The strange thing is that he is one good looking guy, who looks great with nothing on, sorry I meant with no retouching…

  4. yahhh….i don’t really care either, heck, if my face were going to be splashed all over the world, I would mind a little brush up either!!=)

  5. I’m not overly against airbrushing, but I don’t think these ads look that great 😦

I hate looking at my own skin imperfections in photos, let alone those of celebrities aimed at trying me to buy into the perfection of the brand.

  6. Ohhh droooool!
He looks good with AND without the airbrush ;o)

Doesn’t everyone airbrush these days? Why the hoopla?!
I’ve never been a huge fan of his, but I do like that first photo. Very dapper!

  11. I don’t really care…because, I’ll be blunt, the benefit is that it’s giving me some great eye candy!

What a fab selection of comments, thank you. Really great to hear your opinions, keep them coming – they make my day 🙂

  14. I find that how I feel about the airbrushing thing fluctuates some depending on the situation. If you’re interested, we did a post about it here: http://thenarcissistsdiary.blogspot.com/2010/08/airbrushed-blogosphere.html.

What I noticed about these, though, is how in the ad for “The One,” they obviously wanted him to look rugged and raw and tough, like a Brawny man. hehe And in the one for the “Gentleman” version, they made his face smooth as a baby’s butt and less angular and made him look refined, more like the traditional view of a gentleman. It’s an obvious marketing trick, but you know, it probably works!
